Found a new mechanism of tsunami generation by a submarine caldera!
This study reveals, for the first time, that tsunamis can be caused by the so-called “trapdoor faulting” mechanism in a submarine caldera, Sumisu caldera, in the Izu-Bonin Arc. Most of the results are done during my PhD at Earthquake Research Institute, the University of Tokyo. The seismic analysis parts are done during my summer visit at Caltech SeismoLab.
